Teaching

Philosophy

My teaching goal is to help students reach their highest artistic expression in all styles of music. This principal is inspired by the string pedagogue Ivan Galamian’s statement that, “The teacher should encourage and inspire the advanced pupils to an independent and personal rendition, guiding it when necessary in such a way that it will conform to the aesthetic dictates of good taste, style and form.”

Incorporating this ideal, I encourage each student to be open-minded and inquisitive, and to research the historic context of each musical composition. Every student is unique, and each learning style is different. I am inspired to find ways to encourage and motivate my students to search for excellence, and to work hard to achieve their very best on a weekly basis.

I believe you learn by doing, so I seek concert venues and masterclasses where my students can perform, as well as summer festivals and study abroad opportunities where they can engage with the musical world.

The Scharoun Ensemble of Berlin was founded in 1983 and has since then achieved high esteem in the international music capitals and at festivals. Comprising eight permanent members, except from Wolfram Brandl and Claudio Bohorquez all of them musicians of the Berliner Philharmoniker, the ensemble has since its inception augmented the classic octet formation to create larger forces.
